Peruvian Government interested in the Caminito del Rey Project and its application in the refurbishment of the Colca Canyon
The County Council of Málaga explained the technical side of the project, as well as its tourism and financial impact in the area
Several representatives of the Peruvian Government have had a meeting with the representatives of the Public Works Department of Málaga County Council in order to get detailed information about the Caminito del Rey Refurbishment. The Peruvian Government is thinking about carrying out a similar project in the case of the Colca Canyon in the Province of Arequipa.
Mr Francisco Oblaré, the Public Works Departament representative, clarified the varied features of the project to the following members of the Peruvian Government: La Unión Province Regional Minister and the Peruvian Tourism and Employment Promotion President James Posso Sánchez; Juan Bermejo, the advisor of the Regional Governor of Arquipa, and José Valdecantos, the Press Officer of the Alvac building company from Perú.
Apart from Mr Oblaré, the technical details of the project were also explained by Public Works Department Director Andrés Gutiérrez Istria, and Luis Machuca, the Head of Architecture and Town Planning Department at the County Council and the creator of the project.
Moreover, they talked about the impact that El Caminito del Rey had on the Guadalhorce area during one year, considering that the visitors’ expenses were €16m and the economic impact was €40m worth. Furthermore, the project helped create 230 jobs.
