The refurbishment of El Caminito del Rey project, which was carried out by the County Council, has won many national and international awards since 28th March 2015.

NATIONAL AWARDS
ASTER Award of ESIC Business School. Best marketing strategy
The award recognizes that El Caminitodel Rey has managed to recover the natural heritage of Malaga and turn it into a tourist offer of enormous value for the entire region.
The 3rd National ‘Town and Territory Albert Serratosa’ Award established by the Civil Engineers Association and Caminos Foundation
This prize awards the refurbishment of a historic path, part of a hydraulic and hydroelectric power project of great importance for cultural heritage.

13th Spanish Architecture and Town Planning Biennial
The path was given this award by the Ministry of Public Works in collaboration with the Association of Architects’ Board, Caja de Arquitectos Foundation and the Town Planners Association. It was awarded in the category of ‘Town Planning: Town and Landscape’ together with other twenty-two projects that were performed in Spain in 2015.

Prize for Contribution to Andalusian Tourism in 2016
Last September, the refurbishment project of El Caminito del Rey Path received the Premio Andalucía del Turismo (the Andalusian Award for Contribution to Tourism Sector in 2016) in the Good Practice category. This is an award for dedicated work to people or companies who support this industry. The jury’s decision was made public once the award had been approved by the Secretary of State for Tourism on 1st August 2016.

Prize for Contribution to Tourism by the Spanish Cabinet
The path was awarded for emerging tourist destination by the Spanish Cabinet in December 2015. The County Council of Málaga was handed in the prize by the Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy, during the celebration of FITUR in 2016.

El Caminante (The Hiker) Award for the Best Project in Tourism by El Mundo Newspaper
This prize El Caminante (the Hiker) was given to the County Council of Málaga for its contribution to tourism in Andalusia by the Andalusian section of El Mundo.

INTERNATIONAL AWARDS
Architecture Awards at ArchMarathon in Milan
ArchMarathon is the first international event of is kind that celebrates architecture and design projects and gathers 42 different firms and studios from all over the world. The first of these events was celebrated in Milan in 2014. It lasted three days and gathered 1,800 architects. In 2015, the celebration took place in Beirut, when it mostly included Mediterranean and Arab countries. The number of participants exceeded 8,000.The last edition of the awards was celebrated in Milan on 13th and 15th May. El Caminito del Rey Project won the prize in the category of Landscape Design & Open Space.

10th Hispanic-American Architecture and Town Planning Biennial in São Paulo (Brazil)
The Hispanic-American Architecture and Town Planning Biennial (Bienal Iberoamericana de Arquitectura y Urbanismo), is a result of the teamwork between the Spanish Government and several Hispanic-American institutions, which has turned into an important event where current situation and future of architecture and planning in Spain and South America can be grasped. El Caminito del Rey is one of the awarded Spanish projects.

European Union Awards
The project ‘El Caminito del Rey’ won three European awards. The most important one is Europa Nostra Award, the most prestigious prize in Europe in the heritage field. El Caminito del Rey was one of the twenty-eight awarded projects in Conservation Category. It was the only Spanish project, together with the refurbishment of six churches in Lorca after the earthquake.
Moreover, it was among seven project that were granted the Grand Prix Award by the experts, and the most voted project by European citizens on the Internet, which is why it obtained the Public Choice Award.
