The Visitor Centre or the Visitor Reception Centre is placed at Puerto de las Atalayas (the Atalayas Pass). You can park there and find out the necessary information about the path which has become a symbol of the hiking and active tourism in Spain. The construction of the building is practically finished, currently working on its internal endowment (furniture, interpretation area, etc.), as well as in the parking and access to the building.
The building, which was designed by Luis Machuca, architect in charge of the Caminito del Rey Project, is only a herald of what can be seen inside of it. Steel, wood and glass form the bases of this centre, placed at the natural crossroad where Roman and medieval roads used to meet. The ruins of a Neolithic village, which is more than six thousand years old, can still be found here. Moreover, this spot offers enjoyable and relaxing view over foothills in the east and El Chorro Reservoir in the west.
It is rather important to gather the necessary information before reaching El Caminito del Rey. This centre offers a brief audiovisual presentation which shows how attractive this spot can be for a wide range of visitors, such as nature lovers, those who are keen on geology, archaeology, history, engineering, photography and want to find out about people related to this place, or simply love heights and enjoy sights of cliffs and gorges. The walk along El Caminito del Rey and the view of the Desfiladero de los Gaitanes Gorge promise to be an unforgettable experience for all of them. The staff will inform the visitors about the regulations regarding the path. The centre also includes a café and a gift and souvenir shop.
The visitors will be taken to the paths from the car park by shuttle buses to start their walk towards El Caminito del Rey.
