The County Council, through the Environmental and Town Planning Department of the County Council and the company Turismo y Planificación Sosta del Sol (Costa del Sol Tourism and Planning), launched the project based on SICTED (QualityTourist Destination Management System) Method in order to promote tourism in the towns around El Caminito del Rey Path. Moreover, it was mean to introduce improvement bases in all parts of the tourism chain.
With this purpose, the County Council has recently organized a meeting between Environmental and Town Planing Representative Marina Bravo, General Manager for Turismo Costa del Sol Arturo Bernal, Town Councils' representatives from Álora, Ardales, Antequera, Carratraca and Valle de Abdalajís, General Manager of Quality and Innovation in Tourism for the Andalusian Government María Carmen Arjona, and coordinators of the project at regional level. They talked about the all-round and continuous management of the destination quality, and about necessary means for its development.
Ms Bravo stressed that the main aim of the project is to achieve the same level of quality in all services offered to tourists regarding this destination. This includes tourist services as well as those which indirectly influence the whole experience a tourist can have at a destination. The SICTED Method promotes quality tourism at the destination at global level, and helps creating full consciousness about the destination and common aims for all tourist or non-tourist state or private elements in the tourism chain.
This program is of public and private kind, and it was developed by the Government Department for Tourism together with local, regional and state administration bodies. The association that will be in charge of promoting the improvement measures in order to make El Caminito del Rey a quality destination is the Quality Destination Board composed of different public administrations and local companies.
Tourist companies and services in the towns of Álora, Antequera, Ardales, Carratraca, and Valle de Abdalajís are final object of the project, and its participation in it is voluntary and free.
The companies are going to work with good practice manuals and have a series of responsibilities regarding better quality of the service. These improvements are related to the running of the company itself by keeping in mind human resources, clients and suppliers, marketing, environmental issues, and all the production process, which are to be performed in order to achieve customers' satisfaction and build customer loyalty.
